Surviving the Quarter-Life Crisis
Real life can suck. The many joys of adulthood can be outweighed by stress, existential dread, and feelings that you have no idea what you are doing while everyone else has it figured out.
It’s ok to feel stuck or lost in the fog of the unknown.
I support clients who feel unseen or unheard connect to their inner voice and resilience and use that voice with confidence. My clients often report feeling stuck or in a funk. I work with them to strengthen their intuition and move forward from a connected and authentic place. Much of my work with those struggling with adjusting to adulthood uses an insight based Client-Centered approach, with use of expressive arts and Sand Tray techniques when needed. We also allow for a healthy dose of humor and real talk.
Reach out if you are ready to dive deeper into your resiliency and potential for growth. In person sessions available in Asheville NC. Virtual sessions available in NC, SC, FL, and VT.

I am currently in network with Aetna insurance.
All clients with other insurance plans may be eligible to use their Out of Network benefits.
I keep a limited number of reduced fee spots on my caseload. Contact me for more information of current reduced fee openings.
-
Depending on your specific insurance plan you may have what’s called out of network benefits. You would pay the full session fee upfront. Then you will be provided with what is called a “Superbill” to submit to your insurance provider for partial reimbursement. It will depend on your specific plan as to how much of the fee they will cover. You can call your provider's member services line to inquire about your plans specific coverage. I can also support you in figuring out coverage.
-
Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask:
-Does my plan cover outpatient mental health therapy? (If they ask for codes, common billing codes are 90837 and 90834).
- If yes, how many sessions are allowed?
- If no, do I have out-of-network benefits?
-Do I have a deductible to meet before insurance starts covering or sharing costs?
- If yes, how much is my deductible and how much have I met already? -
There are many reasons why clients and providers can choose to access Out of Network benefits or pay for therapy privately. Some of these reasons include:
Insurance companies can control what therapists you see, how often you meet with them, and how long you can meet with them. These limitations can be frustrating for clients and therapists.
Due to insurance companies focusing on only paying for medically necessary services, the therapist must provide a diagnostic code based on the DSM-V which will stay on your medical record and will be listed as a pre-existing condition on any future insurance plans you may try to apply for. This can cause issues in getting a reasonable premium rate or even a plan at all, depending on the severity of the condition. Some clients prefer to keep this sensitive information
private.Insurance companies have the right to request any and all documentation that the therapist has on file for you to review and ensure that medical necessity is present. Insurance companies may choose to stop paying for claims or to issue clawbacks. This can be a concerns for the lack of privacy clients have on your therapy notes and lack of autonomy for the therapist to provide
the best treatment possible.
Insurance companies decide your rate with your therapist, so the therapist is unable to negotiate a lower rate with you for services in the event of financial changes. For self-pay clients, the therapist has full control of their fee and has the ability to choose to lower rates due to changes with financial status. This becomes problematic when someone has a high deductible health insurance plan.
Many people choose to self-pay for therapy using their Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) as it is tax-free and the money is only allowed to be used for qualified health expenses. With this form of payment, ou only need to submit a receipt.
Getting Started
- Contact me to schedule an initial consultation phone or virtual call. During the consultation call we can discuss the current needs and how I can support. Client choice and autonomy are important pieces of therapeutic work. Feeling that your therapist “gets” you can make a scary process easier to manage.
Consultation calls are also great times to ask any questions that are helpful in making an informed choice. These questions may include:
-What is your approach to therapy?
-I’m new to therapy and not sure what to expect. Can you describe what a typical session may look like?
-Is a hot dog a sandwich?
If we feel that there is a good therapeutic fit after the consultation call, we can discuss logistics and scheduling. If we feel there is not a fit, we can discuss referral information or resources for a better fit for your needs.
Larkspur were used during the Victorian era as a means to ward off ghosts and evil spirits. It was common to plant larkspur flowers near the front door as a symbol of protection.
